Garmin introduces new cycling computers at CES

By BRAIN Staff

LAS VEGAS, NV (BRAIN) — Garmin is introducing a variety of new products, including at least two new cycling computers, at this week's massive Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The new Edge 810 and Edge 510 and Garmin Connect Mobile app connect smart phone features to a handlebar-mounted bike computer.

The devices feature live tracking, social media sharing and real-time weather updates. The devices connect wirelessly by Bluetooth to the user's phone, which can be kept in a saddle bag or jersey pocket.

The Edge 810 features a 2.6-inch color display, up to 17-hours of battery life, and a redesigned and simplified touchscreen interface. The 810 is compatible with optional detailed street or TOPO maps including BirdsEye Satellite Imagery. Its navigation capabilities require no data usage, so those features can be used even without a data connection. Suggested retail is $499.95.

The Edge 510 is a lighter-weight device for performance riders. It has a new 2.2-inch touchscreen display and is compatible with both GPS and GLONASS satellites for faster satellite acquisition and improved signal lock. It has up to a 20 hours of battery life. The touchscreen can be operated even with a gloved finger and when wet, and is visible in direct sunlight. Suggsted retail is $329.95.

Both the Edge 810 and 510 track speed, distance, time, GPS position, elevation, calories burned, ascent and descent. They sync wirelessly through ANT+ technology with compatible third-party power meters as well as Garmin heart rate monitors and speed/cadence sensors.

Both devices are available with quarter-turn handlebar mounts. Optional mounts position the devices ahead of the handlebars or integrate them with the 3T Integra road stem.

Hawley Adds to West Coast Sales Team

Hawley Adds to West Coast Sales Team

Hawley announced today that they are adding two new positions to round out coverage for the western territory. Hawley’s West Coast Sales Team adds a life-long veteran rep, Jim Meininger for the Arizona/New Mexico region and a transfer from an Inside Sales position at Hawley, Michael Bronson for the Colorado region.

With the opening of a new West Coast distribution center earlier in the year, Hawley continues to grow on the West. These additions make a total of 7 reps providing sales coverage to just over 90% of the population in the western states from the Nevada warehouse.

Ian Cross, Director of Sales at Hawley expressed, “Our western growth plan is right on course. We continue to attract the type of sales reps that are a tremendous fit for Hawley- experienced, passionate, life-long service providers that have high expectations from themselves to enrich and enhance their IBD’s.”

Over the last 23 years, Jim Meininger has covered Arizona and New Mexico as a territory manager for Raleigh USA. Jim has been in numerous positions at Raleigh during his 40 year career there but has found sales positions the most satisfying. Jim has a proficiency and passion for sales and customer relationships which have helped him earned many rep awards.

Michael Bronson started with Hawley in 2007. Over the years Michael has distinguished himself as a dedicated and successful inside sales and customer service representative. Michael has over 10 years of industry experience having previously worked in bicycle retail in South Carolina. Michael will start regional coverage in January 2013 and relocate to Denver, Colorado.

“Hawley has made a good deal of progress out west, just as planned. We want to serve the dealer base to the best of our ability and both Jim and Michael have the dedication and experience to take us to a new level,” said Steve Hawley the President at Hawley. “We see plenty of growth opportunities out west with our brands and with next day ground shipping options. The additions of Jim and Michael will add strength to the foundation of our west sales team.”

Hawley Develops West Coast Account Manager Team

With the opening of a new West Coast distribution center in January Hawley announced today that they are forming a West Coast Account Management Team with the hiring of 5 veteran reps: John Eighmey for the Oregon and Washington region, Jeff Kazan for the north California region, Fred Faustman for the greater Los Angeles region, Derek DeJonge for the San Diego and Orange County region, and Dennis Holliday for the Utah, south Nevada, and south Idaho region.

“As news spread about our new West DC, interest in our new sales rep positions kept increasing. We were able to hire an incredibly dedicated account management team to service accounts on the West,” stated Ian Cross Director of Sales. “This is likely the strongest and most experienced group of people we have ever hired. We have high expectations of customized service to dealers and representation for our vendors from our Account Managers, and I believe these new reps envision the same standard we do.”

John Eighmey started with Hawley in January of 2007. John was Account Manager of the year for Hawley in 2007. John has over 15 years industry experience having previously worked in bicycle retail and as a sales rep for GT. John relocated to Portland, Oregon.

Hawley rehired highly regarded rep, Jeff Kazan. He has previously worked for Pearl Izumi, Avocet, Raleigh, and others in north California over the last 25 years. He has won numerous rep awards over his career.

Over the last 15 years, Fred has covered greater Los Angeles for Serfas, Scott USA, Raleigh, Schwinn-GT, and Cannondale. Fred is well known for understanding the dealer-to-supplier relationships and how to be an asset to the dealer in the supply chain.

For the last 15 years Derek has been employed in numerous positions on the publishing side of our industry including being the publisher at Bike and Paved magazines. Previous to this he has experience in bicycle retail and also on the supplier side working as a sales manager for Univega and Onza.

Hawley also added Dennis Holliday, a 24 year industry veteran. Early in his work life Dennis understood retail and achieved retail successes. For the last 15 years, Dennis has represented Raleigh, Scott USA, Yeti, No Fear, and others in the Utah and Nevada regions.

“Our hope and intent as we planned our West distribution center was to retain the best possible sales and account staff we could find. We know that we accomplished this with these professionals”, said Steve Hawley. “Their proven successes, commitment, and extensive industry experience makes this a team that Hawley can entrust with our customers. Hawley is thrilled about working more closely with dealers in the West.”

Through the creation of this West coast sales team, Hawley will be covering just over 80% of the population in those states. Additionally, Hawley will have next–day ground delivery in all of those areas. In January Hawley will have a nationwide logistic reach of 2 day ground delivery or less to the majority of the US.

Hawley to Open West Coast Distribution Center

Hawley to Open West Coast Distribution Center

Riding the coattails of the most successful month in their 25-year history, Hawley announced plans to open a west coast distribution center in Sparks, NV - a suburb of Reno. The new center will compliment Hawley’s east coast hub in SC and provide a more complete national coverage. “Dealers and vendors have been asking us for years to expand out west, but we wanted to wait until the timing was right,” said company President, Steve Hawley. “We are now in a great position to not only satisfy their requests but exceed their expectations. We haven’t finalized an opening date yet but we plan to open before the end of the year.”

This announcement does not come hastily. Hawley has been testing the western market preemptively for several years and the results of those tests proved that there is robust demand for their business model. Hawley continued, “Dealers are truly looking for a company they can partner with. Our professional network of outside account managers coupled with a high level of personalized dealer services and a comprehensive mix of products have proven to be a winning combination for our customers since 1986.”

One of the many benefits of Hawley’s recent partnership with Lambert is their access gained to critical resources, which have helped to make this cross-national expansion possible. Lambert GM, Sylvain Caya went on to comment, “We are very excited about Hawley’s future growth in the US market.”
